Student artists, families and friends are invited to this kick-off celebration of "Art Wide Open," an opportunity for high school students to create art to be displayed at the Northwestern DA's Children's Advocacy Center, a child-friendly home in  Northampton where children suspected of being physically and/or sexually abused are medically examined and interviewd in a non-threatening environment.

Student artists will be paired with and mentored by skilled artists from the area with the goal of creating art to make the CAC more comforting, safe and inclusive for children.

Kathryn Brown, an accomplished children's book illustrator; Daniel Ochoa, a professional ceramic artist and educator; and Colee Asia, a professional painter and art exhibitor will direct the project, collaborating with high school students over the coming few months to complete the art exhibit for the CAC.

Students can sign up to participate at the kick-off celebration on Sunday, Sept. 18 from noon until 8 p.m. There will be live music, crafts, an open microphone, food and art for sale.
