Springfield man sentenced in 2017 Amherst shooting

A Hampshire County Superior Court jury found Malek F. Bosmond, 26, of Springfield, guilty on Thursday, of reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, in connection with a Dec. 20, 2017 incident at the Mill Valley Apartments in Amherst in which one person was shot in the leg. 

Bosmond was sentenced, this morning, to serve 2 years in jail, 18 months of which is mandatory.  Following his release, he is to serve 2 years of probation on the reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge.

Bosmond was acquitted of an assault by means of a dangerous weapon charge and witness intimidation.

The jury deliberated for approximately four hours before returning the verdicts.

“We are pleased the jury held the defendant accountable for his reckless and dangerous conduct that night,” said First Assistant District Attorney Steven E. Gagne, who prosecuted the case.

Judge Richard Carey presided over the trial, which began Monday, October 21, 2019.  The defendant was represented by Attorney Alfred P. Chamberland of Easthampton.
